The City of Port Colborne, situated on the shores of Lake Erie in the Southern Ontario Niagara Region, is a community with tremendous spirit and unsurpassed hospitality. With so much to offer, the City recognized the need to boost its online presence as the first point of contact for its residents, visitors,
City businesses, potential tourists, prospective investors and job seekers. The City’s goal was to create a website that successfully facilitated a user-friendly experience when accessing municipal services, events or departments, and simplified content management for staff, while meeting accessibility standards, modern design trends and visual appeal.
The process to create the website was not a simple one. Starting with a needs analysis and an in-depth sitemapping session where staff and members of the public identified their priorities, needs and wants out of a new website, the website began to take shape, with the City's official brand and colours permeating through the site's look and feel.
Next came the modules, features and integrations that were required to make the website a smooth, intuitive and enjoyable digital experience for users. The site had to be responsive on all devices and screen sizes, so users could access it from anywhere at any time, and be accessible to legislated Accessibility for Ontarians Disabilities Act (AODA) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 requirements.
With ability to pay bills online, request information, look up City By Laws and easily find City Services online, the redesigned website enables the City to deliver on their key strategic objective of providing excellent customer service. It is also easier and quicker than ever for City staff to maintain, update and control their site with an easy-to-use, powerful and intuitive content management system (CMS).
Featuring a simplified layout, and an improved, intuitive user experience, the new portcolborne.ca also incorporates the following features to improve digital City services, engagement and communication with residents:

• News and Alerts Manager with Pop-up Emergency Banner Capability
With all of these new products, features and services, the City of Port Colborne’s site users can now digitally engage and connect with their municipality in a variety of different ways and discover the right information they need to do business, eat, play, live and explore the City.
Premiering in December 2020, the new City website is a source of pride for all team members involved and will act as an important digital communications tool for years to come.
